A Family Privilege

It is Thanksgiving tomorrow. The family I came through no longer sits at the same table with me.

I like it that way but it took me a long time to get there.

Meals spent growing up were absent of any comfort – the comfort of love. The first person to leave the table was the one talked about first. That never changed even as we became adults. Backbiting, jealousy and selfish ambition accosted every family gathering. There was never peace.

Today I am a member of the family of God. I never sit alone.

Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household,

Ephesians 2:19

As a member of His household I have privilege. It feels so good to be able to say that. I have privilege to be loved, unconditionally at the foot of our Maker. Privilege to know I am forgiven of sins I haven’t yet committed and sins I have committed in the past.

Family privilege that I am an heir to God’s throne. That’s remarkable, isn’t it!

I move into this holiday season not longing for things in the past but looking forward to the future with a smile.

I hold tight to the advantages I have being a member of God’s family. Not lacking for anything, I am encouraged that the dark days are over and the best is yet to come.

I have the courage to tell my story to help others embrace theirs.
