Helpless, Until I Was Not

In my mother’s womb was darkness,

The darkness continued both day and night;

When I was born, I was alone,

The darkness continued both day and night;

As I child I walked in terror,

The darkness continued both day and night;

I was raped as a teenager,

The darkness continued both day and night;

When I searched for a suitor to protect me,

The darkness continued both day and night;

Then, I stepped outside of man’s protection and sought a higher power,

That darkness stopped both day and night.
