Jewels, Gems & Gunpowder

I would love to hear from you! Sharing Saturday with you.

A Jewel: I love John Eldridge of Wild at Heart ministry. I want to share one of his daily readings with you, “I love feeling happy. Absolutely love it. Who doesn’t? But my pursuit of it has sometimes gotten me into trouble. I’m pretty sure it’s gotten you into trouble too. Sometimes I wonder if, in our mad pursuit of happiness, we run right past the joy that might be ours. We work hard to change our circumstances or change ourselves so that we might be happy. We get ourselves into addictive behaviors (exercise, by the way, is also very addicting; so is organizing your life). Then we work hard to get ourselves out of our addictions, which sometimes only makes matters worse. And all the while, God is right beside us with a gentle invitation to joy. But we can’t hear that invitation while we are focused on whatever it is we think has to happen in order to make us happy.”

What are you waiting for to make you happy?

I waited for this beautiful, new sauna to arrive. When it arrived, I used it every day with great joy. You know what happened? After sometime, it got used less often than it once did and the happiness of its arrival soon wore off.

Make sure your happiness comes from things that cannot be taken.

Gem: I have a joy today that God placed in me. His love pursued me until it finally changed me. It’s not you who creates change within yourself — it is God working through your surrender to him.

Metaphorical Gunpowder: I used to think that if I left my family of origin, I would have no love or family. I also believed that if I left my 17 year marriage, I would be without love and family. These were lies meant to keep me imprisoned to harmful people. I didn’t find love or true family UNTIL I LEFT.

Please comment below by leaving your jewel, a gem or something you keep yourself free from with metaphorical gunpowder.

All love!
