Jewels, Gems & Gunpowder

I would love to hear from you! Sharing Saturday with you.

A Jewel: I was raped by my father before I turned four and it continued until I left his house at the tender age of 18. I don’t shy away from that story anymore. I was his victim, tortured for decades. Why change that story for the bystander? Why change that story for any reason?

Gem: I had a discussion with a friend last night and she shared that for many years, she believed that all people came from “the Cleavers.” The Cleavers were a quintessential American family of the 1950s, as depicted in the television series, “Leave it to Beaver.”  She added that most people she knew believed the same way. I looked at her and said, “well, that is simple not true. As a child I believed that if i came to your house for an overnight, your father would take me upstairs and try to rape me, too.” She kindly hugged me.

I wasn’t looking for her hug. I wanted her to know that there are millions and millions of people who came through a shattered childhood and are still living with suspicion. That suspicion I still try to rid myself of on the daily.

Metaphorical Gunpowder: Heavenly Father, today I enter your gates with thanksgiving. Me and my children made it out of utter chaos and control into a life that is uniquely saved. Thank you for that. Amen.

Please comment below by leaving your jewel, a gem or something you keep yourself free from with metaphorical gunpowder.

All love!
